Molecular Sieve
Molecular sieve adsorbents, primarily crystalline aluminosilicates known as zeolites, are distinguished by their unique porous structure, which forms upon removal of the water of crystallization. This structure creates a network of pores or cages with a high affinity for re-adsorbing water or other polar molecules. Thanks to strong ionic forces from cations like sodium, calcium, and potassium and an extensive internal surface area of up to 1,000 m²/g, molecular sieves are highly effective in capturing and holding substantial amounts of moisture. This property makes them exceptional as desiccants, efficiently adsorbing water even from low-concentration environments. When used as desiccants, molecular sieves can reduce water content in gases and liquids to trace levels (in ppm or even less), providing a powerful solution for drying applications across various industries.
